The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is an agency of the United State government, and is responsible for consumer protection in the financial sector. Companies like banks, credit unions, and payday lenders all fall into the CFPB jurisdiction. Formed as a reaction to the financial crisis and recession in the mid 2000s, all consumer financial products and services are regulated under the CFPB.
