Data.gov, as of May 2018, makes nearly 300,000 data sets accessible from the federal government (which, alone, has over 230,000 data sets) local governments, universities, and private organizations. The aim of the service is to make government more open and accountable, as well as to engage citizens and businesses to spur economic development and to provide the basis for informed decision-making.
