The School Safety Traffic and Pedestrian Improvement Fund (formerly called the School Zone Fixed Automated Camera Fund) was created by Ordinance 124230 to separately account for revenues generated by the school zone fixed automated cameras. In 2012, the Seattle Department of Transportation in collaboration with Seattle Police Department installed eight fixed automated cameras on flashing beacons in four elementary school zones in Seattle: Broadview Thompson, Gatewood, Olympic View and Thurgood Marshall. The purpose of these fixed automated cameras is to reduce vehicle speeds and improve safety for school children and other pedestrians.
